We have forgotten to tell you that Mediate Art Group, the non-profit that our creative director Alan So founded, is having their festival “Soundwave ((7))” right now. Soundwave primarily showcases "sound art," but also explores disciplines such as music, dance, and installation. It’s an art experience out of the unexpected.
Mediate’s Artistic Director Tiare Ribeaux explained it like this when interviewed in East Bay Express: "I feel like, when a lot of people come to art galleries or museums, they expect two-dimensional or three-dimensional work. I think sound adds a fourth dimension that is a bit unexpected and in that way gives audiences something new."
This year the festival’s theme is architecture. Mediate has invited artists to explore the sonic connections to our built environment, which shape our lives as humans.
Sköna was honored to be asked to do the design and key art concept for the event, poster, program guide, and web assets. Artist Colin Evoy Sebestyen at Movecraft created the animations for this teaser video.
There are tickets left for these two events:
Material Notation at the Jewish Museum (Sept. 1)
Augmented Environments (Sept. 3) at the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts. It’s the closing event.
So, looking forward to seeing you at the Contemporary Jewish museum on Thursday – that’s going to be spectacular. At the museum's special acoustic venue, Yud Gallery, electronic musician and artist Suzy Poling will debut "Human Glass Rotation," a performance featuring an illuminated mirrored geometric installation, projections, and live music.
It sounds like something I have never experienced before. Great.
